Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes has joined Paris Saint-Germain and Argentine forward Lionel Messi as the only player to register at least 50 goals and assists across all competitions since January 2020.
News About Nigeria gathered that Fernandes reached this height after setting up Man United teammate Marcel Sabitzer for his opener against Sevilla in the Thursday night UEFA Europa League (UEL) 2-2 quarterfinal first-leg.
The Portugal international has been an integral part of the Red Devils’ starting squad since his arrival from Sporting CP.
The 28-year-old joined Man United in January 2020 and has now registered 50 assists in all competitions for the club, while scoring 60 times.
Fernandes however, will not feature for Manchester United when they face Sevilla in the second leg of their Europa League quarterfinals.
He was booked in the first-half of their quarter-final game at Old Trafford after a shot from Nemanja Gudelj hit his arm from point-blank range.
United suffered two late own goals that denied the team victory over Sevilla. The absence of centre-backs Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez to injury proved costly as Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire deflected balls into their own net in the final six minutes plus stoppage time of the game.
The home side was without 28-goal top scorer Marcus Rashford due to injury, but still made light work of the Spaniards before half-time as Sabitzer struck twice.
The Austrian midfielder had scored only once for United in 12 previous appearances but twice pierced through the Sevilla defense with well-timed runs and composed finishes.
Anthony Martial’s return from injury was also a boost for Erik ten Hag men as he made threatening passes, one of which was converted by Sabitzer for his second goal.
