Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has caused a stir on Twitter after retweeting a post that derided Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2023 presidential election.
The post, originally tweeted by an All Progressives Congress (APC) supporter with the Twitter handle @EleyiLagos, mocked Obi following reports of his detention in the United Kingdom.
@EleyiLagos claimed that Obi was the first presidential candidate from Nigeria to be detained at an airport and described it as a shame to Nigerians. The tweet gained traction and went viral on social media.
Qudus with Twitter username @EleyiLagos wrote; “Fellow Nigerians meet Mr. Peter Obi, the first Presidential candidate in the world to be detained by The UK Government at Heathrow Airport.
Obi is the first Presidential candidate to be jailed Abroad. Look at the records and see how Peter Obi dent and disgrace Nigerians.”
The tweet gained traction and went viral on social media. Wike, who has over 760,000 followers on Twitter, retweeted the post to his timeline, raising red flags.
However, Wike quickly reversed the retweet when he started facing backlash for his action.
But it was too late, as screenshots of the retweet had already been taken by users. News About Nigeria made a recent check on his Twitter page which shows that he has taken down the retweet.

Nigerians expressed displeasure, especially because Obi had consulted with Wike on several occasions during campaigns.
