The Kogi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports that Senator Dino Melaye has been suspended from the party over alleged anti-party activities in the State.
In a statement released on Wednesday and made available to News About Nigeria, Farouk Yahaya, State Secretary of the party, said that the PDP did not contemplate suspending the governorship aspirant at any time.
The PDP used the statement to warn trouble and mischief makers who are bent on causing crisis in the party to desist, pointing out that the party remains focused going into the primary election.
The party urged members of the party and the general public to disregard the “misleading information”, which it described as “fake news”.
This development comes amidst reports of increasing tension and infighting within the Kogi State PDP.
It is believed that some members of the party are unhappy with the emergence of Senator Dino Melaye as a governorship aspirant.
These members are said to be pushing for another aspirant to be nominated, citing concerns over Melaye’s alleged controversial past and his ability to win the election.
Despite these concerns, Melaye remains a popular figure within the party, having previously served as a member of the National Assembly representing Kogi West Senatorial District.
His outspokenness on national issues has endeared him to many Nigerians, particularly the youth population.
In response to the allegations of anti-party activities, Senator Dino Melaye has denied any wrongdoing, stating that he remains committed to the ideals and values of the PDP.
He has also called on his supporters to remain calm and focused, urging them to continue to support the party ahead of the forthcoming primary election.
