Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann claims Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola does not deserve the accolades he is receiving from football fans and fellow managers.
Hamann said that Guardiola has not done anything spectacularly different from what other managers have done. “Guardiola has not managed anything that others have not managed.
“Everybody tells you that Pep Guardiola is the super father of coaches. But he was in a Champions League final in with Man City, and he lost that himself. And now people tell me he’s the best manager in the world, I’m sorry,” News About Nigeria obtained.
Recall Guardiola has enjoyed stellar managerial career and considered by many as one of the greatest-ever coaches of his generation, due to his achievements with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City, but Hamann feels otherwise about the Spaniard, saying he is overrated.
Guardiola who has faced many criticisms in his career has to his credit 14 trophies at Barcelona and went on to dominate the Bundesliga with Bayern and the Premier League with Manchester City, where he is currently hoping to clinch the league title with Arsenal keenly contesting for it as well.
The Man City tactician has also been heavily criticized for not winning the Champions League with the club in 2021, losing out to Chelsea’s Kai Havartz only goal at the finals.
His only Champions League triumphs came with Barcelona back in 2009 and 2011 during a golden era for the club. The City boss has also been regularly accused of “overthinking” his tactics, particularly due to his failure to add more European trophies to his cabinet despite being in charge of expensively-assembled squads at Bayern and City.
