Tightened Security As Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Resumes At Abuja High Court

Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as his farewell gift to Nigerians.

Buhari will leave office on the 29th of May after spending two terms.

In a statement signed by the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group compared the release of Kanu to the pardon given to Boko Haram members by the Federal Government.

“Surely, if Boko Haram terrorists, who took up arms against the Nigerian state can be pardoned and rehabilitated, releasing the IPOB leader is not too much to ask for,” Isiguzoro said.

Isiguzoro also urged Igbos to support the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate Peter Obi, in reclaiming his mandate through legal means.

“Ndigbo should resolutely support the Labour Party, LP, Presidential candidate, Peter Obi in recovering his mandate through legal instruments, and we commend Nigerians, of all ages, from across the country who have continued to support him as he strives to reclaim his Pan-Nigerian mandate in order to move our beloved Nigeria “from consumption to production,” he said.

About 18 months since his detention at the DSS custody, in Abuja, the IPOB leader has not tasted freedom despite the judgement of the Appeal Court granting him freedom, and awarding billions of naira as damages against the Federal Government for Kanu’s extraordinary rendition from Kenya mid-2021.
