Arsenal Draws 2-2 Against Liverpool as Premier League Title Race Intensifies

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal drew 2-2 against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, putting a damper on their title hope despite having a perfect start to the match with Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus scoring two goals in the first half.

However, Liverpool fought back with a goal from Mohamed Salah just before halftime and an equalizer from Roberto Firmino in the dying minutes of the game.

The match was not without controversy as assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis was seen thrusting his elbow into the face of Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson just after the halftime whistle.

This incident fired up Liverpool, who came out strong in the second half but were unable to complete the comeback, missing several chances.

The result leaves Arsenal six points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table, but with a game in hand, City now have the destiny of the title in their own hands.

News About Nigeria understands that the defending champions will host the Gunners at the Etihad later this month, and a win for them will put them in a strong position to retain the Premier League title.

Despite the draw, Arsenal has been in excellent form, having won their previous seven league matches. On the other hand, Liverpool has struggled, failing to win any of their five games since their 7-0 victory over Manchester United last month.

The Reds remain in eighth place, 12 points adrift of the top four and their chances of Champions League football next season are dwindling.

Virgil van Dijk’s slump in form has played a significant role in Liverpool’s collapse from last season’s team that came close to an unprecedented quadruple.

The Dutch center-back was caught on his heels for Arsenal’s second goal when Jesus was left unmarked to head in Martinelli’s cross on 28 minutes.

While the title race is far from over, the draw at Anfield has intensified the competition for the top spot in the Premier League.

The next few matches will be crucial for both Arsenal and Manchester City as they battle it out for the coveted trophy.

As for Liverpool, they have a lot of work to do if they want to finish in the top four and secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
