Akpabio Quitting Senate Presidency Race? Ex-Commissioner Gives Fresh Details

Former Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, on Monday dismissed rumours that Senator Godswill Akpabio will be stepping down from the race for the Senate presidency, News About Nigeria had learnt.

Afegbua issued a statement to dispel such rumours and confirmed that Akpabio remains a leading candidate for the position.

In the statement, Afegbua reiterated that Akpabio has not and will not withdraw from the race.

He added that the senator had been confirmed as the frontline candidate in the contest for the leadership of the 10th Senate in the All Progressives Congress.

According to Afegbua, Akpabio’s aspiration has elicited a lot of support from relevant stakeholders, and he has consulted far and wide before stepping out to seek the leadership of the 10th Assembly.

The former commissioner noted that Senator Akpabio is a proven administrator and his emergence will provide the APC and Tinubu-Presidency the best opportunity to achieve a balanced and inclusive government.

Afegbua also mentioned that Akpabio had consulted with the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Vice-President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima, and several other Senators-Elect, stakeholders, party executives, opinion moulders and ordinary Nigerians, who all gave him the nod to seek the office.

The former commissioner emphasised that Akpabio’s eyes are focused on the ball, and he is a thoroughbred and consummate politician who understands the dynamics of the country’s political emanations.

Afegbua added that Akpabio’s popularity and acceptance had elicited a lot of positive feedback, which propelled him to seek the exalted office.

He said, “All the odds favour Senator Godswill Akpabio. He is a proven administrator and his origins and faith mean that his emergence provides the APC and Tinubu-Presidency the best opportunity to achieve a balanced and inclusive government.”
