In anticipation of the upcoming presidential and national assembly elections, the Ogun State Police Command has issued a statement regarding restrictions on both human and vehicular movement between the hours of 12 midnight and 6:00 pm in the state.
The aim of this restriction is to ensure the safety and security of citizens during the election period, News About Nigeria reports.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, security aides attached to public officeholders are not permitted to escort their principals to polling units. Additionally, the restriction order also affects state-owned security outfits during the election.
The statement was released on Friday in Abeokuta, the capital city of Ogun State.
The statement read, “In view of the Presidential and National Assembly elections slated to take place on Saturday, February 25, 2023, the Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that there is going to be restriction of human and vehicular movements on the road and waterways across the state, starting from 12 midnight to 6 pm on Saturday.
“The restriction of movement is in line with the directives of Inspector General of Police Usman Alikali Baba NPM, fdc, CFR, which is aimed at ensuring peaceful conduct of the election.
“In the same vein, security aides attached to public office holders are not allowed to escort their principals to polling stations and collation centres armed, and no state-owned security outfit will be allowed to participate in providing security during the conduct of the election.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Frank Mba, has enjoined the law-abiding citizens of the state to go out en masse and cast their vote for the candidate of their choice, as robust security arrangement has been put in place to ensure that the election is conducted under a very peaceful atmosphere.
