The Olowa of Igbara-Oke Kingdom in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Dr. Francis Adefarakanmi Agbede, has publicly distanced himself from a viral audio in which a traditional ruler in Lagos State is heard making threats to residents if they do not vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party.

In a press release, the paramount ruler and prescribed authority of the Igbara-Oke kingdom described the news as a misrepresentation of his identity and stressed that he was not a Baale and had no connection to the threatening audio.

He further expressed disappointment over the unprofessional conduct of the bloggers or publishers who disseminated the false information, News About Nigeria reports.

The report had originally claimed that the Baale of Gbara in Jakande, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State had threatened residents with harm if they failed to vote for the APC. The false news was accompanied by an alleged audio recording and Oba Adefarakanmi Agbede’s picture and details.

In response to the news, Oba Agbede called on the public to disregard the false report and for the publishers to apologize for the embarrassment caused to him. He emphasized the importance of professional journalism and advised journalists to verify their sources of information before publication.

It is alarming that false information and misrepresentation of identity can be so easily spread through digital media. This highlights the need for greater responsibility and accountability among journalists and media outlets to ensure accuracy and prevent the spread of false information.

Oba Adefarakanmi Agbede’s call for professional journalism serves as a reminder to all media practitioners to take their duties seriously and to always verify their sources of information before publishing.
