Edo 2024: APC Rigged Election – PDP Alleges

The eight-year tenure of Governor Godwin Obaseki officially came to an end today (Tuesday) as Monday Okpebholo was inaugurated as the new governor of Edo State.

News About Nigeria reports that Okpebholo and his running mate in the September 21 gubernatorial election, Dennis Idahosa took oath of office as Governor and Deputy Governor of the South-South state on Tuesday.

The swearing-in ceremony which took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the state capital, was attended by dignitaries including Vice President Kashim Shettima who represented President Bola Tinubu; governors under the All Progressives Congress (APC); Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo; a former governor of the Edo Adams Oshiomhole among many others.

Recall that the APC had clinched the ticket to the Dennis Osadebay House after polling 291,667 votes to defeat Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who was his closest rival in the election who scored 247,274 votes.

While the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Olumide Akpata came a distant third with 22,763 votes.

Despite being in power, the PDP failed to continue its leadership in Edo State as it surrendered to the APC.

Speaking during his inauguration today, Okpebholo lauded the people of Edo State for believing and voting him into power.

He further pledged his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people, noting that they would work relentlessly to rebuild the Edo of their dreams.

Okpebholo also stated that Edo will from today begin to experience growth in every area as the APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda would be implemented in rebuilding the state.
