The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested 88 suspected miscreants and criminals in two coordinated operations in Oshodi and surrounding areas.
News About Nigeria reports that the operations, which took place on Tuesday at 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., were carried out in response to rising concerns about criminal activities in the area.
The Chairman of the Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, made the announcement in a statement signed by the agency’s spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem.
Akerele revealed that the raids were initiated after multiple complaints from motorists, residents, and pedestrians through the agency’s feedback channels.
“Concerned individuals reported an alarming increase in criminal activity, particularly during rush hour, with hoodlums lying in wait to harass passersby and motorists around Oshodi, Bolade, and its environs,” Akerele said.
He said that the government will continue ensuring the safety and security of Lagos residents.
“We cannot allow these criminal elements to hold our people hostage in their own communities. The state government remains steadfast in its resolve to protect lives and property. This operation is a testament to our dedication to putting an end to this menace.”
Akerele reassured residents that the exercise would be sustained, in line with the Lagos State THEMES PLUS Agenda, which is to restore law and order across the metropolis.
He also disclosed that the taskforce had carried out surveillance in the area, uncovering that the miscreants were using pedestrian bridges at Oshodi Bus Stop to identify and target their victims.
“All of these criminal activities will soon become a thing of the past as we are determined to completely shut down their operations,” he pledged.
Akerele urged motorists and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the agency or the nearest police station, assuring that all arrested suspects would be prosecuted.
“We remain on high alert and will continue to conduct surveillance and sting operations to safeguard lives and property along this axis and beyond,” he added.
