The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited is set to mobilise a fleet of trucks to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos in preparation for the distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.
On Saturday, September 14, 2024, News About Nigeria gathered that approximately 300 NNPC trucks are expected to arrive at the refinery’s fuel-loading gantry in Ibeju-Lekki.
This move aligns with the Federal Government’s plan to begin petrol distribution from the $20 billion refinery starting Sunday, September 15, 2024.
NNPC will act as the exclusive purchaser of the refinery’s output, which will then be distributed to other marketers.
Olufemi Soneye, NNPC’s spokesperson, shared updates on social media, confirming the arrival of the trucks.
A video posted on his X account showed trucks lined up at the facility, with Soneye noting that by the end of the day, at least 300 trucks will be stationed there, with more expected on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has taken measures to address potential traffic disruptions resulting from the refinery’s operations.
Hon. Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, announced that additional traffic control personnel and advanced equipment have been deployed to manage the expected increase in traffic along the Lekki-Ajah-Epe corridor.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has been equipped with new resources to oversee traffic flow in the affected areas.
Giwa assured that a comprehensive traffic management strategy is in place to ensure smooth traffic conditions and rapid response to emergencies.
Medical ambulance services have also been placed on high alert.
Giwa said it is important to adhere to traffic regulations, particularly for tanker operators involved in the loading and transportation of petrol.
Motorists, especially commercial vehicle drivers, are urged to follow traffic rules and avoid actions that could exacerbate traffic issues.
