The leadership of the House of Representatives has stated that it will resume the investigation into the critical issues in the oil and gas sector, News About Nigeria reports.
The spokesperson of the House, Rep. Akin Rotimi, disclosed this in a statement, stating that the current ad hoc Joint Downstream and Midstream Committees, which were established to investigate the issues in the oil and gas sector, have been dissolved.
According to the leadership, these issues include the importation of adulterated petroleum products, the non-availability of crude oil for domestic refineries, and other energy security concerns.
Rotimi noted that the new ad-hoc committee will be constituted to take over the mandate of the dissolved committee, with a focus on ensuring a thorough and independent investigation, adding that they will comprise members selected for their expertise, competence, and integrity.
He maintained that the House will continue to address the issues that are plaguing the oil and gas sector in the country, and hindering its effectiveness.
He further stated that the House will disclose more details on the operations of the new committee and what is expected of them in due course.
He, therefore, urged the people to remain calm and have some faith in the House as they will not be disappointed.
“The House of Representatives remains committed to addressing the vital issues in the oil and gas sector and ensuring effective oversight.
“Further details on the operations of the new committee will be announced in due course,” the statement reads in part.
