An explosion, suspected to be caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), occurred at the Buni Yadi market in Yobe State’s Gujba Local Government Area around 12:30 pm on Friday.
News About Nigeria gathered that the incident caused panic among the local residents and market traders.
According to local reports, a girl was injured in the blast. The Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, represented by Captain Muhammad Shehu, confirmed the incident.
Captain Shehu noted that a second IED was discovered in the market area and was safely detonated by Army personnel, preventing further casualties.
The injured girl is currently receiving medical care.
This incident coincided with a tragic event in Borno State, where a convoy of Nigerian soldiers encountered an explosive device.
The vehicle hit the IED while responding to a distress call about a Boko Haram attack in the Mugunu area of Maiduguri.
The explosion resulted in the deaths of at least seven soldiers, with only one survivor.
One of the deceased has been identified as Luke, hailing from Cross River State, with further identifications pending.
The soldiers were part of a response team dispatched to assist a neighboring community under attack.
Eyewitness accounts and reports highlight that this area has been frequently targeted with IEDs, presumably planted by Boko Haram militants.
The Nigerian military is currently investigating the incidents and working to secure the affected areas.
In the aftermath of these attacks, the military is undertaking efforts to recover and identify the remains of the fallen soldiers.
