Ngozi Okoronkwo, the suspended Abia State Commissioner for Health, has resigned from Governor Alex Otti’s cabinet.
Her resignation was made public by the spokesperson for Governor Alex Otti, Ukoha Njoku, in a statement released on Wednesday.
News About Nigeria earlier reported that in June, Governor Otti suspended the Commissioner, who is a medical doctor, for alleged “gross misconduct.”
Announcing her suspension through a statement by the Commissioner for Information in the state, Okey Kanu, Governor Otti said the suspension of the health commissioner was to pave the way for the allegations against her to be properly investigated.
The governor, however, did not give details of the allegations or what they entail.
In a fresh development on Wednesday, the governor’s spokesperson revealed that Okoronkwo has tendered her resignation letter to Governor Otti.
Njoku further revealed that the governor has accepted her resignation while thanking her “for her services” and “modest achievements in repositioning the health sector for better service delivery” in the last one year.
He further noted that the Governor remains committed to delivering his mandate to the people of Abia state, adding that this includes hiring, suspending, and even sacking his appointees.
“The governor reiterated his commitment to the transformation of Abia State and reminded Abians that they gave him the mandate to assemble his team, and this includes hiring, suspending or sacking his appointees or rejigging and reshuffling his cabinet whenever the need arises for the sole purpose of delivering all his promises to the people,” Njoku added.
