Subject to any last-minute changes, the House of Representatives is set to amend the 2024 Appropriation Act with the aim of approving N6.2 trillion for various capital projects.
News About Nigeria reports that a breakdown of the proposed expenditures reveals that N3.2 trillion is allocated for capital projects, while N3 trillion is for recurrent expenditures.
The proposed bill, sponsored by Majority Leader Hon. Julius Ihonbvere, seeks to amend the 2024 Appropriation Act to authorise the release of N3.2 trillion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund for capital expenditure and N3 trillion for recurrent expenditure for the year ending December 31, 2024.
As listed on the order paper, the bill was gazetted for a second reading.
As the plenary session for the day commences, the lawmakers resolve to suspend the scheduled legislative business and dissolve the executive session.
Recall that the House of Representatives Committee on FCT Area Council and Ancillary Matters said it is set to grill the six Area Council Chairmen of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on their expenditures starting Tuesday next week.
The Chairmen would face the House Committee after failing to show up for several invitations.
Chairman of the Committee, Fredrick Agbedi, during a hearing on Tuesday, which was attended by the Minister of State for FCT, Mariya Mahmud, and the six area council chairmen, expressed displeasure, stating that they have been dodging the invitation of the Committee to explain how they have been spending monies appropriated to them.
According to the chairman of the committee, Agbedi berated them, saying their action held the parliament in contempt.
