The police command in Lagos has arrested a 32-year-old woman identified as Funmi Faith, who was seen in a viral video maltreating a female child.
In the video, a man’s voice was heard denouncing the treatment, saying, “Mummy Mariam this is bad, It is dehumanising. You can’t treat this girl like this.
“I am giving the Lagos State government this video; this is dehumanising.”
In the now-viral video, the woman who had instructed the child to take her bath on the street as she stood by was challenged by a neighbour for her inhumane act.
However, Faith hurled insults at the male neighbour who captured the abuse on video, with visible bruises on the child depicting that she had been abused.
News About Nigeria reports that the woman refused to desist from the act.
She had, however, challenged the man under the video to present the video before the Lagos government.
Reacting to the situation on Wednesday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police spokesperson, said in a statement on his X page that the 32-year-old woman has been arrested.
Hundeyin said she was apprehended by operatives from the Oke-odo division area of the state on June 4.
“The woman captured in a now-viral video maltreating a female child, 32-year-old Funmi Faith, has been arrested,” he wrote.
“She was arrested by police officers from the Oke-Odo Division yesterday, Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
The image maker said that the child has been handed over to the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development for proper care and shelter.
