Fire Razes Kwara High Court Complex

Fire has reportedly razed Kwara State’s new High Court complex located in the Government Reservation Area, Ilorin, the state capital, on Tuesday, News About Nigeria reports.

The fire, which was said to have been noticed at about 7:25 am this morning, damaged the main building and offices located in the court complex.

Confirming the incident, in a statement, the Head of Media and Publicity of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, revealed that, the fire damaged 40 offices, three open courtrooms, the Registry Department, and the Litigation Office.

In the statement, the spokesperson of the service also revealed that the fire outbreak was a result of a surge in electricity supply to the area.

The statement partly reads, “In the morning of February 13, 2024, at 07:33 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service received a distress call regarding a fire outbreak at the State High Court in Ilorin.

“Responding swiftly, the fire crew rushed to the scene to find the imposing State High Court building ablaze. This building, housing 40 offices and three open courtrooms, was in peril, with the registry department and litigation office particularly affected by the inferno.”

While commending the courage of the firefighters who were able to save some parts of the building from destruction, Adekunle disclosed that no lives were lost or injured in the incident.

He further called on residents of the state and the general public to prioritise safety awareness and precautions in their daily lives to avoid such occurrences.

Adekunle also charged them to be familiar with various means through which they can handle a fire outbreak to avoid destruction before the fire service gets to the scene.
