Yuletide: PDP Laments As Kwara Misses Out On FG's Transport Subsidy

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has said it is disappointed over the exclusion of Kwara State from the Federal Government’s initiative to subsidise transportation costs for the Christmas and New Year seasons in 22 states.

News About Nigeria gathered that, in a statement released on Saturday, the PDP’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara, expressed regret that, despite Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s role as the current Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Kwara was noticeably absent from the programme.

The party questioned the public benefit Kwarans have gained from Governor Abdulrazaq’s chairmanship, especially in negotiations with the Federal Executive Council.

The PDP urged the state government to consider using part of the recently received N9 billion intervention from the Federal Government to subsidise the transportation of Kwarans coming home for the holidays.

The statement also raised concerns about the governor’s commitment to the welfare of the Kwara people, citing the failure to provide promised palliatives and the inability to meet the expectations of the people despite holding the position of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum Chairman.

“We also call on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to explain why he could not provide even the staggering N10,000 palliatives to all Kwara workers as earlier promised, especially when other states are providing N25,000, N35,000, and N100,000 and 13-month salary to their workers.

“Governor Abdulrahman holds the position of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum Chairman for the benefit of the people but fails to meet the expectations of his people back home in Kwara,” the statement read.

The PDP called on Governor Abdulrazaq to explain these issues, adding that effective leadership that prioritises the state’s interests is important.
