LASTMA Prepares For Yuletide Traffic Control

In preparation for the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has deployed its personnel, patrol teams, and tow vehicles to some areas in the state, News About Nigeria reports.

According to Adebayo Taofiq, the Public Relations Officer of LASTMA, in a statement on Saturday, the move aims to ensure the seamless movement of vehicles and address potential traffic violations that could disrupt travel times.

Taofiq stated that the agency’s acting general manager, Bakare Oki, noted the agency’s commitment to facilitating unrestricted traffic flow.

Oki urged drivers to adhere to traffic regulations, cautioning against violations such as failure to use seat belts, overloading, speeding, using phones while driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The statement read; “As part of its statutory responsibilities in ensuring unimpeded flow of traffic across the State, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has deployed more personnel, patrol and tow vehicles to strategic locations across the state.

“The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bakare Oki Olalekan, disclosed that the agency is specifically dedicated to ensuring the free flow of traffic and prompt response to any infractions that could by any means extend the journey time of motorists.”

The deployment is part of LASTMA’s annual ‘Ember Months Road Safety Advocacy Campaign’, which includes proactive measures like public enlightenment, traffic control, rescue operations, and strict enforcement to enhance road safety during the festive season.

In a related development, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of lives and critical infrastructure across the nation during the Yuletide season.

Dr. Ahmed Audi, the NSCDC Commandant General, announced the deployment of 25,000 personnel drawn from various tactical units for active surveillance.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Friday, Dr. Audi assured Nigerians that the NSCDC, in collaboration with sister agencies, is committed to providing security for citizens throughout the festive season.
