A group known as the Ijaw National Congress on Monday tasked President Bola Tinubu with intervening in the ongoing crisis in Rivers State by calling the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to order.
This was contained in a statement signed by the president of the group, Prof. Benjamin Okaba.
The group warned Wike and his loyalists to stop their moves allegedly aimed at sacking the Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara.
According to the statement, despite the previous interventions of Tinubu and other critical stakeholders, the former Rivers state governor is bent on ensuring that Governor Fubara is impeached from office.
The group also decried Wike’s constant appearance on television, where he accused Fubara of attempting to ‘take over’ his structure and also openly taunting him and tagging him as an ingrate who is lacking in integrity.
Okaba also stated that the FCT Minister was falsely accusing the Rivers State Governor of burning down the hallowed chamber of the Rivers State House of Assembly because he did not carry out any investigation before calling Fubara out.
The group, therefore, called on Tinubu to stop Wike from interfering in the state’s politics and to allow Fubara to function properly as the governor of the state.
News About Nigeria recalls that crisis broke out between Wike and Fubara after the hallowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly were set ablaze by suspected political thugs in the state, following a move by the state house to commence an impeachment process on the Leader of the House, Hon. Edison Ehie, and the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
