The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, stated on Saturday that the state had improved under his administration, News About Nigeria reports.
According to the governor, who served for eight years, he will be leaving Kogi State in a better condition than he found it.
Bello made these remarks shortly after casting his vote in his Agaza country home in Okene, commending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their professionalism and the conduct of the election. He also praised the security agencies for ensuring the safety of the state and allowing voters to exercise their franchise without fear.
The Governor alleged that the media has been spreading rumours of insecurity in the state, noting that such news is the work of naysayers.
He said, “You have seen for yourself how peacefully we have been conducting ourselves since voting started; that shows that the adverse security image being peddled by the outside world is a creation of the media and a figment of the imagination of those who do not want anything good in our state.
“I am not a violent person; all the elections I have been involved in have been contested up to the Supreme Court, and each time, I have been victorious.”
Bello expressed confidence that his successor would win the election and also build on his eight years of achievements.
He commended the people of the state for their peaceful conduct during the election, urging them to continue exhibiting orderliness as they exercise their franchise.
