Iyalode of Yorubaland: Family Announces Funeral Arrangements

The family of the late Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief Alaba Lawson, who passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 72, has released the funeral arrangements for the distinguished educationist and entrepreneur, News About Nigeria gathered.

According to a statement signed and provided to the press by the media aide of the deceased, Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, the service of songs to honour her memory will be held on December 7, 2023, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta.

The funeral service is scheduled for December 8, 2023, at St. James African Church, Idi-Ape, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

In addition to these details, Kayode-Adedeji also revealed that a committee had been formed to finalise the program of events for Alaba Lawson’s burial.

The Central Planning Committee, led by Sanya Abiola, includes other members such as Tayo Akintayo, Sesan Bankole, and Akin Jiboku.

Music legend Ebenezer Obe-Fabiyi chairs the family meeting. Other members of the Central Planning Committee are Akinola Lawson, Babalola Lawson, Oreoluwa Obey-Fabiyi, and Taiwo Jiboku.

The burial arrangements, as outlined by the committee, will feature various activities from December 1 to 6, dedicated to different groups, associations, and professional bodies celebrating the life and contributions of the late Alaba Lawson.

The statement also noted that the interment scheduled for December 8 will be exclusively for family members of the deceased.

The funeral service will provide an opportunity for all to pay their last respects to the late Iyalode of Yorubaland.

“Service of songs will be held December 7, at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, the funeral service will be held December 8, at St. James African Church, Idi-Ape, Abeokuta, Ogun State, which will be followed with interment strictly for the family members of the deceased,” the statement read.
