The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, lauded the organised labour led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for suspending their planned nationwide strike for 30 days, News About Nigeria reports.

According to a statement by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, the decision of the labour union to suspend the strike was in the best interest of the Nigerian people and the economy.

Kalu also noted that if the organised Labour had forged ahead with their planned strike, it would have affected the Nigerian economy tremendously.

The Deputy Speaker therefore commended all parties involved in the negotiation and subsequent agreement of the organised Labour, noting that dialogue remains the best way to settle grievances.

“We have come to a place where reasoning and dialogue to resolve issues is the ultimate,” he stated.

According to him, the dialogue between the government and labour was part of ways to finding a solution to the challenges and current economic realities facing the country.

Kalu also lauded the federal government for budgeting N100 million to procure CNG-powered buses and for making provision for the procurement of CNG kits to kick-start the process of conversion in the country.

He, therefore, expressed confidence in the ability of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to engage the productive sector in the country and to help drive the economic recovery process.

The organised Labour had announced a nationwide strike on Wednesday, 27th September 2023, which according to them, is geared towards forcing the federal government to address excruciating suffering and hardship across the country, which is as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy.

However, following negotiations and agreement with the Federal Government, they suspended their planned Nationwide strike by 30 days on Monday night.
