Buhari Mourns as Ex Minister of Justice Dies

Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Bola Ajibola (SAN), has died at the age of 89.

President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased in a statement obtained by News About Nigeria.

The President noted that Ajibola was an outstanding lawyer and a remarkable jurist who advocated for justice, fairness, and equity throughout his career, both within and outside Nigeria.

Buhari acknowledged Ajibola’s contributions to Nigeria’s legal system and his service as Attorney General and Minister for Justice at a crucial period in the country’s history.

The President emphasized the late Ajibola’s integrity, passion for service, and commitment to the advancement of humanity, noting that these traits will continue to resonate after him.

The President also sympathized with the government and people of Ogun State, where Ajibola hailed from, for the loss of a citizen who contributed significantly to the educational and social development of his community and beyond.

Buhari prayed that the Almighty will grant Ajibola Aljannah.

Ajibola, a legendary arbitrator, was the President of the Nigerian Bar Association from 1984 to 1985.

He was also the President of The World Association of Judges, the Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and the President of the World Bank Administrative Tribunal, among other notable accomplishments.

Ajibola’s brilliance in law practice took him to the International Court of Justice at The Hague, where he served meritoriously between 1991 and 1994.

He also served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 1999 to 2002.
