Former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani has reacted to the latest move by President Bola Tinubu led government to divest from Premium Motor Spirit to Compressed Natural Gas, News About Nigeria reports.
President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s decision to remove fuel subsidies prompted service stations in the country to increase their pump prices of fuel. The announcement saw the pump price of fuel skyrocket from N189 per litre to over N600 per litre.
Transport fares and the cost of economic activities in the country have also skyrocketed amidst unending discussion between the Federal government and the organized Labour over fuel subsidy which the former maintains is an economic drain and unsustainable.
Following the hardship being experienced by Nigerians, the President Tinubu-led government resulted in palliative measures to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.
However prominent Nigerians have continued to task President Tinubu to look towards a permanent solution towards ending the current hardship being faced by Nigerians as a result of the recent removal of fuel subsidy.
Borno State governor had earlier suggested that dolling out palliative is not the solution to ending the current economic hardship being faced by Nigerians. The governor further called for an improved investment in the Agricultural sector.
However, responding to FG’s plans to further divest from fuel to CNG, former senator, Mr Sani wrote:
“The World is converting to electric vehicles and Solar power and we are converting to Gas; When the Gas prices rise, we will then convert to something else,”
Compressed Natural Gas is a fossil fuel substitute for gasoline (petrol), diesel fuel or propane/LPG. Its combustion does not produce greenhouse gases.
