Manchester United’s Under 21 young goalkeeper Nathan Bishop has issued a heartfelt apology after his accidental challenge resulted in Wrexham striker Paul Mullin being hospitalized, News About Nigeria understands.
The injury came during a friendly match in San Diego. Mullin, who scored an impressive 47 goals last season, was left in need of oxygen and taken to the hospital after colliding with Bishop while contesting a lofted through ball in the 12th minute.
After the incident, Mullin took to his Instagram story to update fans on his condition, expressing his gratitude for the support and assuring them that he was doing well.
Bishop who received a yellow card for the challenge, was met with boos from the Wrexham supporters present at the stadium.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper expressed his sincere remorse on social media, emphasizing that there was no malicious intent behind the challenge and wishing Mullin a speedy recovery.
Manchester United Under 21 coach Travis Binnion defended Bishop, stating that the challenge was a genuine accident with no ill will. He mentioned that Bishop had already reached out to Mullin to express his apologies.
Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster also empathized with Bishop, stating that the young goalkeeper was “absolutely heartbroken” over the incident. He revealed that Bishop had been in touch with Mullin to check on his well-being.
Although the match ended 3-1 in favour of Wrexham, Mullin’s injury scare caused a rift between both teams fans.
