World athletic champion Tobi Amusan has vowed to contest charges of missed drug tests that could lead to her suspension from the sports, News About Nigeria reports.
The 100m hurdles world record holder is currently facing charges of missed drug tests that could potentially lead to her suspension from athletics.
Amusan took to her Instagram to address the issue, expressing her determination to contest the charges and have her case heard before a tribunal of arbitrators prior to the upcoming World Championships.
The charges against Amusan revolve around three alleged missed drug tests within a 12-month period, a violation that carries the possibility of a two-year suspension, even if the athlete in question has never previously failed a drug test.
Addressing followers on her Instagram page, the 26-year-old Nigerian athlete vehemently asserted her innocence, vowing to prove her clean athlete status.
She highlighted the fact that she regularly undergoes testing by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) and was tested just days after the third alleged missed test.
“I am devastated by these allegations, as I have always upheld the highest level of integrity in my career.
“I have full faith in the testing protocols and believe that the truth will come to light through a fair arbitration process,” Amusan wrote.
Report of this had many of Amusan’s fellow competitors express their support and solidarity.
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, the current Olympic gold medalist in the 100m hurdles, offered her words of encouragement, saying, “Tobi is an incredible athlete and a true role model for all of us. I have no doubt that the truth will prevail, and she will continue to excel on the track.”
Amusan, who made history last year by breaking the 100m hurdles world record, has been in outstanding form this season, clocking a personal best time of 12.34 seconds.
Despite being the second-fastest hurdler in the world, she now faces uncertainty regarding her participation in the upcoming World Championships, scheduled to take place in August.
The AIU responsible for handling doping cases in track and field, has not yet released an official statement on the matter.
However, they have a reputation for conducting thorough investigations to maintain the integrity of the sport.
