Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has denied accusations made against him by George Nwaeke, the former head of service in the state.
Nwaeke, who recently resigned, claimed that Fubara played a central role in the state’s political crisis and was involved in meetings with militants to encourage the destruction of oil pipelines.
Responding in a statement sighted by News About Nigeria, Fubara dismissed the allegations, calling them false and misleading.
He stated that Nwaeke had been pressured to spread lies against him.
Fubara also refuted claims that he had discussions about supporting Bala Mohammed’s possible presidential bid in 2027.
According to him, Nwaeke, in his former position, would not have been included in any high-level political meetings, and no such meetings ever took place.
Fubara described as untrue the claims that he encouraged attacks on national infrastructure.
He insisted that he has always advocated for peace in the state, even when faced with challenges.
He urged the people of Rivers and the country to disregard Nwaeke’s statements, suggesting that they were aimed at tarnishing his reputation and disrupting peace efforts initiated by the presidency.
Meanwhile, George Nwaeke has dismissed concerns raised by his wife about his safety, stating that he has not been kidnapped.
In a video message, he confirmed that he was in Abuja and had voluntarily reported himself to security agencies due to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
His wife, Florence, had earlier expressed worries after losing contact with him following an interview he granted about the situation in the state.
She claimed that his sudden silence seemed unusual and said she started receiving calls about the interview, which raised her suspicions.
Hours later, another video surfaced showing her appealing to the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for help regarding her husband’s safety.
In response, Nwaeke dismissed his wife’s concerns, stating that she had been misled into reading a prepared script.
He clarified that he had traveled to Abuja on his own and felt safer addressing security agencies there.
He also distanced her from his official matters, saying that her claims held no weight.
