The Nigerian Presidency has reacted to the recent political moves by opposition figures, calling them a group of discontented politicians who are still bitter about past election losses.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai are at the centre of this development.
Atiku recently announced the formation of a coalition aimed at challenging the ruling party and President Bola Tinubu’s administration, News About Nigeria reports.
The coalition includes other prominent politicians, such as former Ekiti State governor Kayode Fayemi and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi.
In response, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed the coalition as a gathering of individuals who have yet to accept their political defeats.
He stated that President Tinubu remains focused on governance and is working towards national progress.
He also claimed that Tinubu’s administration has already made notable achievements, with efforts underway to address longstanding issues in the country.
According to Onanuga, the coalition is driven by personal interests rather than the public good.
He argued that their main objective is to oppose Tinubu rather than contribute positively to national development.
He assured that the President would not be distracted by such political moves and would continue working towards his administration’s goals.
“Intractable problems are being tackled headlong. Tinubu cannot be distracted by the so-called coalition of politicians. They are not politicians after the Public Good. It’s all about their self-interest. They are disgruntled. They are a frustrated lot“, Onanuga said.
