Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Lagos, has apologized for her controversial remarks about the state.

Last week, Uguamaye sparked online debate when she criticized the government, calling President Tinubu a “terrible leader” and questioning the government’s efforts in addressing the country’s economic struggles.

She also spoke out against the NYSC programme, describing it as unhelpful and mentioning the poor living conditions in Lagos.

Her comments attracted mixed reactions from various groups, including government officials, the NYSC, and residents of Lagos.

In a new post, Uguamaye expressed regret, saying her words were misunderstood as an attack on Lagos, News About Nigeria reports.

She clarified that as someone who is new to the state, she observed significant differences in the environment, especially in terms of air quality and living conditions.

She apologized to anyone who felt offended by her remarks, especially those born and raised in Lagos.

Uguamaye said that her complaints were based on her personal experiences, including working over 45 hours a week but struggling to afford basic leisure activities.

She urged people to demand improvements in their living conditions, stressing the importance of staying committed to seeking better opportunities.

She said:

“I’m sorry for those born and raised in Lagos state if you feel offended by what I said. But as a visitor here, I could tell there was a difference in the atmosphere and air quality.

“If the way that I put it triggered your emotion and love for your birth state, I am sorry. I didn’t mean to talk down on your birth state”.
