The Nigerian military has assured the public that bandit leader Bello Kachalla Turji is being tracked and will soon be taken down.
Major General Emeka Onumajuru, Chief of Defence Operations, shared this update on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.
The interview was monitored by News About Nigeria.
He confirmed that security forces are aware of Turji’s whereabouts but did not reveal further details on the matter.
According to Onumajuru, tracking high-profile criminals like Turji can take time, but efforts are ongoing, and the military remains committed to ending his operations in the Northwest.
He urged Nigerians to remain patient and trust the process, stating that Turji is currently in hiding while being closely monitored.
“First, I need to let you know that there is absolutely no forth and back between Bello Turji and the armed forces.
“As I speak Bello Turji is hiding, completely in hiding and the armed forces is tracking him, the armed forces continuously track him and very soon he will be eliminated,” Major General Onumajuru said.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Turji has been imposing levies on residents in Sokoto State.
A state lawmaker, Honourable Aminu Almustapha Boza, recently confirmed that the bandit leader has been collecting money from communities in Isa Local Government Area.
In response, Major General Onumajuru urged residents to resist such demands, assuring them that the military is actively working to protect them.
He emphasized that security forces are positioned to secure farmlands and ensure normal activities resume without fear.
