Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has urged Nigerians to ignore fake news, even as he debunks rumors circulating that Nigerian billionaire businessman, Mike Adenuga, is dead.

News About Nigeria reports that rumors had spread online claiming that the 71-year-old Adenuga, who is the fifth-richest person in Africa according to Forbes and the founder of Globacom, Nigeria’s second-largest telecom operator with operations in Ghana and Benin Republic, had passed away.

However, in a statement via his verified handle on X on Tuesday night, Momodu assured the public that the business mogul is alive and well.

He disclosed that he had a phone conversation with Adenuga, who confirmed that he remains an active contributor to Nigeria’s economy.

Momodu maintained that there is no cause for alarm as the septuagenarian is doing remarkably well, adding that Adenuga sends his appreciation for the concerns expressed by Nigerians.

He therefore urged them to always disregard fake news and avoid falling for such scams.

He stated, “Ignore the fake news… The Spirit of Africa, Dr. Michael Adeniyi Agbolade Isola Adenuga, is hale and hearty. He’s right now at his desk, working round the clock in support of the Nigerian economy… He just called me to thank everyone for their concern.”

Adenuga is the chairman of Conoil, an oil exploration firm. In 1991, after receiving a drilling license, his company, Consolidated Oil, struck oil in the shallow waters of Southwestern Ondo State, making him the first indigenous oil company to do so in commercial quantity.
