The Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and the Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, have hailed Chidimma Adetshina for winning the first runner-up position at the Miss Universe contest.

News About Nigeria reports that Chidimma clinched second place after losing to Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig.

The Enugu-born beauty queen was also named Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.

In his congratulatory message to Chidimma, Mbah lauded her commitment and resilience despite all odds.

He also expressed appreciation to Nigerians for the massive support given to Chidimma throughout the contest.

The Governor wrote, “Congratulations to Miss Universe Nigeria and Enugu State Brand Ambassador, Chidimma Adetshina, our pride from Amurri, Nkanu West Local Government, on emerging as the 1st Runner-Up at the Miss Universe 2024 Pageant in Mexico. Chidimma’s incredible journey and outstanding performance have filled us with immense pride, reaffirming the resilience, brilliance, and determination that define Ndi Enugu.

“Against all odds, she has made Enugu and Nigeria shine brightly on the world stage, and we cannot be prouder of her. On behalf of the government and good people of Enugu State, I say congratulations, Chidimma – keep soaring to even greater heights! Let me also take this opportunity to thank Nigerians and the rest of the world, who rallied behind her and voted, to enable her to achieve this feat.”

Also, Dabiri-Erewa lauded Chidimma’s doggedness and resilience despite the controversies that surrounded her journey.

She further tasked Nigerians to emulate the beauty queen and to also be proud of the country at all times.

She said, “Adetshina’s controversial official withdrawal from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest, in which she had advanced to the final stage, some few months back, made Nigerians warmly welcome her after being literally forced out of South Africa.

“She is brilliant, focused, and determined. I urge Nigerians to emulate the spirit of Nigerianess in Chidimma by being proud of the country and not running it down under whatever guise.”
