President Bola Tinubu on Monday called for an end to Israeli aggression in Gaza, News About Nigeria reports.
Tinubu made the call at the extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit, convened to address the current situation in the Middle East in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Speaking on the conflict in Palestine, the President lamented the fact that it has persisted for too long.
Tinubu’s speech at the convention was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga.
In the statement, President Tinubu supported calls for a two-state solution as a pathway to lasting peace in the ongoing conflict.
According to him, the two-state solution is the only way through which both Israelis and Palestinians can co-exist in security and dignity.
Speaking on the two-state solution, Tinubu said, “It is not just a diplomatic article of faith; it is a vision grounded in the principles of equality and mutual recognition. Achieving this vision requires a commitment to dialogue and respect for history. We all know this conflict did not begin on 7th October 2023. It can only be resolved through principled compromise, based on appreciation of the proper context.”
The President also called on other Nations to intervene in the ongoing war, noting that mere condemnation of the attacks will never end Israeli attacks on Gaza.
Recall that the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza began in October 2023 after Hamas’ attack, which left scores of Israelis dead.
According to the United Nations (UN), since the attacks began, over 43,000 Palestinians have been killed, with approximately 70 percent of the casualties being women and children.
The conflict which has claimed thousands of lives has also resulted in widespread destruction of infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, leaving Gaza residents in poor living conditions.
