Sowore Reveals Reasons For Declining Collaboration With Labour Party

Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, in the 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the trial of the EndBadgovernance protesters, News About Nigeria reports.

In a series of video clips shared via his verified handle on X on Friday, Sowore condemned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for putting the protesters up for trial.

Recall that the Federal Government on Friday, arraigned 76 EndBadGovernance Protesters on ten-count charges.

They are facing a Ten-Count Charge bordering on Alleged Treason, conspiracy to commit a felony with intent to destabilize Nigeria, which is Contrary to section 96 and punishable under section 97 of the Penal Code Act.

The protesters who are mainly minors, looked malnourished as four of them were hurriedly rushed out of the Courtroom as they couldn’t stand on their feet.

Sowore, reacting to this, stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is inhumane and barbaric.

He stated, “These are underage kids; the inhuman, barbaric, and unjust regime of @officialABAT brought to the Federal High Court, Abuja, today to be tried for treason allegedly for participating in the August  2024.”

Netizens have also reacted to the trial.

@mudiaga247 stated, “It is deeply concerning to see underage children brought before the Federal High Court on charges of treason. Every child deserves protection, support, and a fair chance at life, especially in times of political and social challenges. This situation raises important questions about human rights and the treatment of young people under the law. It’s crucial that justice be served in a way that upholds their dignity and rights, and we urge authorities to approach this case with fairness and compassion.”

A tweep, @donchia wrote, “Tears in my eyes. I weep for Nigeria. These kids, underaged to be specific, protested for being hungry, were arrested and imprisoned for protesting and presented in court looking unkept and malnourished. Where is our humanity?”
