Breast Cancer: We're Committed To Bridging Care Gap - Ekiti Govt

The Ekiti State Government has stated that it is committed to bridging the care gap that exists in the treatment of cancer patients, News About Nigeria reports.

It disclosed this in a statement via its verified handle on X on Thursday.

The government noted that as the 2024 Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to an end, it is reaffirming its pledge to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone.

It also disclosed that in lieu of this, the state government has installed a new mammogram machine at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH).

It noted that the machine will help in improving access to early detection and affordable treatment for breast cancer, maintaining that early detection saves lives.

It further noted that the Oncology Centre at EKSUTH is dedicated to every woman in Ekiti, every mother, sister, and daughter.

The government urged women in the state to ensure that they make use of the resources.

The statement reads, “As we wrap up 2024 Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we reaffirm our pledge to bridge the care gap because we know that no one should face breast cancer alone.

“Our Oncology Centre at EKSUTH is dedicated to every woman in Ekiti—every mother, sister, and daughter. So, we invite you to make use of these resources.

“Together, we can create a healthier Ekiti through proactive steps such as early detection.

The month of October, which is mostly referred to as Pink October, is dedicated every year to creating awareness on the prevention and treatments of cancer, especially breast cancer.
