The All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State chapter, has suspended a former Governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, over alleged anti-party activities.
News About Nigeria reports that the former Minister of Interior was suspended following a resolution submitted to the APC national secretariat and addressed to the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
In the resolution, the Osun State chapter of APC accused Aregbesola of creating divisions within the party by establishing a splinter faction.
The party further noted that the move to create the faction was undermining the party’s cohesion and unity, especially during a critical period in the state’s politics.
They also alleged that Aregbesola’s actions have fueled internal divisions, with party leaders asserting that his influence on certain groups has caused significant discord within APC.
The resolution titled, ‘Resolution Suspending Rauf Aregbesola for Anti-Party Activities and Constituting a Disciplinary Committee,’ partly reads, “Following complaints of anti-party activities leveled against Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola by the Ilesa East Local Government Executive Committee, the State Executive Committee (SEC), after reviewing the allegations and in accordance with the powers vested in it by Article 21(3)(vi)(c) of the party’s Constitution, hereby suspends Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from the party pending the outcome of an investigation.”
The party further noted that Aregbosola’s suspension represents a significant move by the Osun State chapter of the APC to tackle perceived disloyalty and realign its leadership in preparation for upcoming elections.
APC further warned other members to refuse to work against the efforts of the leadership of the party by staying committed to the growth of the party.
