The body of Precious Yusuf, a 23-year-old woman, was discovered along DLA Road, opposite Falcon Club in Asaba, Delta State, following her visit to a man she met on a dating website, News About Nigeria reports.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.
He reported that the body has been taken to a mortuary for an autopsy as investigations begin.
According to Edafe, police received a distress call on October 24 at approximately 8:40 a.m. reporting a young woman’s body along DLA Road.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘A’ Division, CSP Rex Abiodun, quickly mobilised a team to the scene, where they discovered the body.
Initial investigations revealed that on October 22, Precious had informed a friend she was meeting a man from a dating website called iHappy.
She went to see him in the Coka area but called her friend the next morning around 7:30 a.m., saying she was on her way home.
Tragically, that was the last contact she made before her body was found the following day.
“On the 24th of October 2024 at about 0840 hours, the DPO ‘A’ division Asaba received a distress call that the corpse of a young lady was found at DLA Road opposite Falcon Club.
“The DPO CSP Rex Abiodun swiftly mobilized and led police operatives of the division to the scene where the corpse of the lady was found.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that on 22nd October 2024, she told her friend that she was going to see a male friend she met on iHappy dating website.
“She left the house on 22nd October to see the young man at Coka. On the 23rd at about 0730 hours, she called her friend that she was on her way home and that was unfortunately the last time she made any contact only for her corpse to be found the next day.”
Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, extended condolences to Precious’s family and assured them that an investigation is underway.
He also urged young women to exercise caution when interacting with people met through dating apps and social media.
Police officials have assured the public that they are committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding Precious’s death and delivering justice.
