A renowned Igbo leader, Chief Obi Okoli, on Friday lauded President Bola Tinubu over the appointment of Bianca Ojukwu, the widow of the late Odumegwu Ojukwu, News About Nigeria reports.
The move by the President, according to Chief Okoli, is a big honour to the South-East.
While commending the President for the honour, the Igbo Leader noted that the appointment shows that he is bridging the gaps.
Speaking in a statement in Akwa, Okoli further noted that Bianca Ojukwu’s appointment as Minister of State (Foreign Affairs) is for the entire Igbo.
He said, “The recent appointment of Iyom Bianca Ojukwu, the widow of the late Igbo leader, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, as Minister of State, Federal Ministry of External Affairs, was an intentional and necessary step towards the recognition and paying accolade to a human institution held in the highest esteem by Ndigbo. It is heartwarming and praiseworthy. The appointment is a reflection of President Tinubu’s commitment to the bridging of gaps.
“He did not only honour Ndigbo but also recognised the core values and excellent qualities of Iyom Bianca Ojukwu, which makes her a square peg fitted into a square hole. I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for this appointment, which is not for Bianca alone but for the entire Ndigbo. The President has again exemplified his fatherly understanding of the yearnings of our people and taken this bold step to recognise the widow of the late Igbo leader.”
The Igbo Leader further congratulated Bianca, noting that he believes in her abilities to effectively carry out the responsibility.
“I congratulate Iyom and pray that she will use the office of her new position to enhance Nigeria’s position on the global stage. Her diplomatic experience and expertise resonate loudly. There is no doubt that she would bring her past experience as Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Spain to bear on her appointment,” he stated.
