The Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris has approved N75,000 as the new minimum wage for civil servants in the state.
News About Nigeria reports that the approval was announced in a statement released on Wednesday.
Speaking in the statement, the governor noted that the new minimum wage is a show of his administration’s commitment to the general welfare and well-being of workers in the state.
He further stated that they will continue to ensure that the people enjoy the dividends of democracy and are well compensated for their labour.
Confirming the development, the chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Murtala Usman, lauded the governor for having the interests of workers as his priority.
According to Usman, the payment of the new minimum wage would commence this month (October).
Speaking on the approval, the Kebbi NLC chairman noted that the governor’s decision to exceed the federal government’s N70,000 minimum shows that he prioritises the welfare of workers in the state.
He said, “Mr. Governor has shown that he is with the workers in the state. We proposed three tables for him. We proposed 72,000, 73,000, and 75,000 naira, and he decided to go for the 75,000 naira, which shows he is for the workers. To crown it all, he also said the payment starts this month of October, and salaries, which he categorically said should be made available to workers in the next 72 hours.”
He, therefore, pledged the commitment of workers in the state to continue to play their part in ensuring the growth of the state.
