Bill To Create Oyo, Ibadan States Passes Second Reading

A bill proposing the creation of two new states, Oyo and Ibadan, has successfully passed its second reading in the House of Representatives.

News About Nigeria reports that the bill, sponsored by Akeem Adeyemi, son of the late Alaafin Adeyemi, along with six others, seeks to amend the 1999 Constitution to divide Oyo State into two distinct entities.

According to the details, Oyo town will serve as the capital of Oyo State, while Ibadan city will be the capital of Ibadan State.

The bill, which proposes to split the current 33 local government areas between the two states, was referred to the Constitutional Review Committee for further legislative action.
