Tension As Hoodlums Kill Man In Phone Theft Incident In Niger

Bandits and suspected terrorists have reportedly killed three people in a road attack in the Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, News About Nigeria reports.

This was confirmed in a statement by the Chairman of Mariga Local Government, Abbas Musa Kasuwa-Garba.

He noted that two rice farmers harvesting on their farm about two kilometres from the town were also abducted in the attack which happened on Sunday at about 9 am.

Kasuwa-Garba stated that the attack occured between Bangi and Kotonkoro areas in the state, adding that the assailants blocked the road and shot at vehicles travelling along the route.

He further noted that the victims include the driver of a car, a young girl, and a passenger identified as Alhaji Ibrahim, who were travelling to the market when the attack occurred.

The owner of the vehicle, identified as Shehu Kotonkoro, also confirmed the incident, expressing his concern about the lack of security in the area.

He noted that the attack happened just 5 kilometres from Kotonkoro.

The Chairman, Abbas Musa Kasuwa-Garba, sympathised with the families of the victims, and called on the government to do something concerning the repeated attacks in the state.

He highlighted the persistent insecurity in the area due to the proximity to Zamfara, Kebbi, and Kaduna states, where bandits frequently strike before retreating to their camps.

He appealed to both the State and Federal Government to come to the rescue of the state, and lamented that the people now live in fear as they cannot go about their daily lives without looking over their shoulders.
