The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for registered voters in Ondo State will begin on Thursday, October 17, ahead of the upcoming governorship election on November 16, 2024, News About Nigeria reports.
Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, shared this information in a statement on Monday.
According to the statement, 89,777 new PVCs have been printed and dispatched to INEC’s office in Akure.
This includes 58,708 new voter cards and 31,069 cards for those who requested updates, transfers, or replacements for lost or damaged cards.
PVC collection will be available at 221 centres in Ondo State, initially at 203 Ward offices from October 17 to October 21 and then at 18 local government offices from October 23 to October 29.
Collection hours will run daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, including weekends.
“The PVCs for all categories of applicants will be available for collection in 221 centres across the State at two levels. First, in all the 203 Wards from Thursday 17th to Monday 21st October 2024. Secondly, in our 18 LGA offices from Wednesday 23rd to Tuesday 29th October 2024 from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm daily (including the weekends).
“During the period, the backlog of uncollected PVCs from previous registrations will also be available for collection at the designated centres,” the statement read in part.
INEC has urged voters to pick up their PVCs in person, as collection by proxy will not be permitted.
The commission has also made available detailed information on collection centre locations on its website and social media.
Additionally, INEC is uploading the entire collection register for new voters online to help voters identify their names and collection points easily.
“In addition to pasting the register of new voters for each centre at the designated locations, the commission is also uploading the entire collection register for the new voters to our website to facilitate easy identification of names and collection centres for the seamless collection of the PVCs,” the statement added.
