The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 1st October 2024, a public holiday to commemorate the country’s 64th Independence Day Anniversary.
News About Nigeria reports that this is contained in a statement issued by Magdalene Ajani, permanent secretary to the Ministry of Interior.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on this occasion.
The Interior Minister lauded patient and hard-working Nigerians, adding that their sacrifices will not be in vain.
He urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from past heroes’ sacrifices, promoting unity to achieve a brighter, more unified nation.
“Aligning himself with the theme for the Anniversary, the Minister reiterated the need for Nigerians to reflect on the labour of our heroes past and be inspired for the tasks ahead, realising that a Nigeria of our dream can only be built when we unite,” the statement reads.
“While wishing Nigerians a Happy Independence Day Anniversary, Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged the citizens to continue to be steadfast in nation-building.”
In 2023, President Bola Tinubu directed that the 63rd celebration to be low-key owing to “economic realities.”
During the 63rd independence celebration, George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), said Tinubu is anchoring the anniversary on the “Renewed Hope agenda” which would improve food security, guarantee an end to poverty, improve security, boost economic growth, and create jobs, among others.
Akume added that citizens should support the federal government so it could in turn defend their interests.
