The Jigawa State Police Command has committed to ensuring that peace becomes the order of the day as they prepare ahead for the October 5 local government election in the state, News About Nigeria reports.
The state police commissioner, A.T. Abdullahi, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Dutse on Tuesday.
He noted that the command will remove all notorious thugs out of circulation as part of an effort to ensure violence-free elections in the state.
Abdullahi stated that the command is working towards checking the excesses of thugs during the elections, adding that the black spots for political thugs will also be identified before the election.
According to the state commissioner of police, the command has started having consultative meetings with the State Independent Electoral Commission, state government officials, and other stakeholders to ensure a peaceful exercise.
He stated, “We have commenced moves to identify the black spots of political thugs. We shall go after them before the election. Some of the notorious ones will be arrested and held until after the election.
“We shall invite all the candidates and leaders of the various political parties participating in the election to sign a peace accord.
“We are not sleeping. We’re working round the clock to ensure that the state maintains its position as one of the most peaceful states in the country.”
He further noted that the command will continue to employ proactive measures to ensure the state remains peaceful, as it is one of the most peaceful states in the country.
