Edo 2024: Shaibu Mocks Obaseki

Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has slammed Governor Godwin Obaseki following the conclusion of the state’s governorship election, which saw APC candidate Monday Okpebholo emerge as the winner.

News About Nigeria reported that Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, emerged victorious, securing 291,667 votes.

He defeated the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who received 247,274 votes, and the Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata, who came in third with 22,763 votes.

In a live interview with Arise TV on Sunday, Shaibu said he was vindicated and joyful over the election’s outcome.

According to him, he played a role in helping the APC reclaim the government seat in Edo State.

During the interview, Shaibu revealed that despite being seen by some as an enemy, he continues to pray for those who oppose him.

He also celebrated the success of the election and his contribution to the APC’s victory.

“I am so excited, I have prayed for it, and I have worked for it,” Shaibu said. “I have also put to rest the negative rumours and blackmail that claim I do not win my ward. That is false. I have never lost my ward or my unit. I have always won.”

Shaibu proudly shared that his polling unit had the highest number of votes in the entire state, across all 192 wards and over 400 polling units.

He contrasted this with Governor Obaseki’s performance, noting that the governor failed to win his local government.

“Even the governor couldn’t win his local government. I won my unit, ward, and local government. Where are the governor’s results? He has never won; we have always assisted him,” Shaibu added.

He concluded by urging Obaseki to reflect on his actions, saying, “He got the power and started kicking us away, removing the ladder. I hope he learns his lesson. What’s left now is for him to go back, apologize, and beg the people of Edo State.”
