Prince Dapo Abiodun, Ogun state governor, has congratulated Monday Okpebholo, on his emergence as Edo state governor elect.
News About Nigeria reported that Okpebholo polled 291,667 votes to defeat PDP’s Asue Ighodalo, who came second with 247,274 votes, and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata, who finished third with 22, 763 votes.
The APC candidate won 11 LGAs while the ruling party secured victory in 7 LGAs.
However, the election, which took place on Saturday, September 21, has been characterised by mixed reactions and a slew of allegations.
In a congratulatory message to Okpebholo, the APC, and President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, Abiodun said the election was transparent and legitimate.
The Ogun governor commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their efforts to conduct a free and fair electoral process.
“Such a commitment to democratic principles is a testament to INEC’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and fostering trust in the electoral system,” Abiodun said.
The Ogun governor commended the residents of Edo State for their active participation in the electoral process, adding that their voices have been heard loud and clear.
“This election not only reflects their wishes but also signifies a collective stride towards more vibrant and accountable governance,” he added.
Abiodun also lauded Tinubu for his vision and leadership, which he said were crucial in helping the APC win.
He acknowledged that the party has been growing stronger under Tinubu’s leadership, while also restating his conviction in the advancement of Nigeria’s democracy.
He further noted that the peaceful conduct of the election reaffirmed that Nigeria’s democracy is maturing and evolving.
