Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has implored the Edo state governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, to endeavour to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the state who voted him into power, News About Nigeria reports.
The governor also congratulated Okpebholo on his victory at the Saturday, September 21 poll.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday evening declared Okpebholo the winner of the election after defeating his main challengers, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP).
Okpebholo polled 291,667 votes, while Ighodalo of the PDP got 247,274 votes. Akpata of the LP came a distant third with 22,763 votes.
Reacting to the election result in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, on Monday, Sanwo-Olu hailed the outcome as a “landslide victory” for the APC.
He also described the result as a testament to the party’s continued dominance across Nigeria at various levels of government.
The governor also lauded the people of Edo State for unseating the ruling PDP by voting for Okpebholo.
He said, “I congratulate Edo State APC governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for emerging victorious in Saturday’s gubernatorial election.The landslide victory of Senator Okpebholo and the ruling party showed that Edo people know what is right, and they have done what is right by sacking the PDP and voting for the APC.”
While expressing confidence in the abilities of Okpebholo, Sanwo-Olu called on the people of Edo state to continue to support him for a better Edo.
