A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday has adjourned the ruling in a suit demanding the removal of Abdullahi Ganduje as national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
News About Nigeria reports the new date of the court sitting is September 23.
It was learnt that the case, which was earlier billed for today, was not on the court’s list.
However, parties in the suit had earlier been reached by the court registrar for a new date because the judgement was not ready.
“We have already called the parties on the phone to inform them of the development. A new date is next week, September 23,” NAN quoted a reliable source as saying.
“Justice Inyang Ekwo had, on July 5, fixed today (Sept. 18) for the judgement.
“Justice Ekwo fixed the date after counsel to the plaintiff, Benjamin Davou; and lawyers to the defence adopted their processes and made their submission for and against the case.”
Saleh Zazzaga-led North Central APC Forum has filed a suit contesting Governor Ganduje’s suitability as APC Chairman, citing his non-indigenous status to the North Central zone.
In the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/599/2024, the plaintiff listed Ganduje, the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as 1st to 3rd defendants, respectively.
The plaintiff asked for a court order to stop Ganduje from claiming APC chairmanship and also requests that INEC disregard all party actions, including congresses, primaries, and nominations, taken since Ganduje’s August 3, 2023, appointment.
The plaintiff is contending, among others, that Ganduje is occupying the office of the APC chairman illegally, not being from a state in the North Central geo-political zone.
It added that the APC’s NEC allegedly breached the party’s constitution by appointing Ganduje from the North West zone to replace Abdullahi from the North Central zone, violating Article 31.5(1) f.
